Food Security

Reliance Foundation works with small and marginal farmers to ensure food security in rural households. To increase the availability, affordability and accessibility of food, the programme is directly engaged in transforming more than 65,500 hectares of land with little or no productivity into fertile and productive lands (dharti farms), through sustainable agricultural practices.

In a majority of the implementation areas, the agricultural productivity of farms has been improved through promotion of sustainable agricultural practices, thereby improving food security among farming households. Large patches of fallow land have been enriched and brought under cultivation, with simultaneous increase in crop yield. Land development interventions under RF BIJ include mixed cropping, line-sowing, pest management, land levelling, fencing, bunding, deep ploughing, trenching and vermi-composting. Farmers are also helped with nano orchards, compost pits and given high-quality seeds, farm-yard manure, pond silt and black soil.
