Beyond the Call of Duty: How People of Reliance Step Up During Disasters

  • 2 min read

This publication captures the extraordinary spirit of volunteerism that powers Reliance Foundation’s disaster response efforts across India. Beyond the Call of Duty: How People of Reliance Step Up During Disasters brings together inspiring stories of employees and teams from across the Reliance ecosystem who have stepped forward in moments of crisis—often beyond their formal roles—to support communities affected by floods, cyclones, earthquakes, pandemics, and other emergencies. Their actions reflect courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to humanitarian service.

Since its inception in 2010, Reliance Foundation has responded to more than 66 disasters across 306 districts in 21 states and three Union Territories, reaching over 20 million people and supporting nearly one lakh livestock. These efforts have been strengthened by more than 5,000 volunteers from across Reliance Industries, Reliance Retail, Reliance Jio, Vantara, and other entities, who bring both empathy and specialised expertise to disaster response. From restoring connectivity and delivering relief kits to providing veterinary care and supporting long-term resilience, their collective efforts demonstrate how volunteerism becomes a powerful force for impact.

Across three sections—response during natural disasters, the COVID-19 pandemic, and nature-based solutions for disaster management—this publication highlights stories that represent a much larger ecosystem of support. It celebrates the people who quietly step up when communities need them most and reinforces a deeper truth: resilience is built through collective action, local partnerships, and a shared humanitarian spirit. These stories stand as a testament to the belief that disaster response is not only about relief, but about restoring hope, dignity, and the strength to rebuild.
